Home Depot Legends: Creating a backyard retreat This month, we have two Legends. Appliance associate Susan from Store 568 in Spring, Texas, and assistant manager Mike from Store 508 in Conroe, Texas, demonstrated the Company's values by building a relaxing retreat for a customer's daughter. The customer came into the store looking for gazebos and stepping stones for her yard so that her daughter could go outside, sit in the shade and get some fresh air. She explained that her daughter is paralyzed from the neck down and uses a wheelchair. After learning about the customer's situation, Susan knew that this was a project that the store could help with in a big way. She partnered with Mike and store manager Chris Burton to solve the customer's needs. "I got all of my department supervisors together and made it a teambuilding project," Chris said. "We volunteered our time and labor to get this project completed." The first large task was to help the customer assemble two gazebos at her home. Susan and Mike also connected with their Pavestone representative to have the patio professionally installed, knowing that stepping stones would not be safe to use with a wheelchair. With the help of the entire store leadership team and Pavestone vendor Karl, they transformed the customer's backyard into a beautiful space. The three-day project was worth all of the hard work when the customer's daughter drove out on the patio for the first time.
